Exchange Rate Strategy

The simplest pricing strategy — convert your base price using live exchange rates.

How It Works

The Exchange Rate strategy is a straightforward currency conversion. It converts your base price to each country's local currency using live exchange rates, with no purchasing power adjustment.

Example

With a base price of $4.99 USD:

CountryExchange RateLocal Price
🇬🇧 United Kingdom0.79£3.94
🇯🇵 Japan155.2¥775
🇧🇷 Brazil5.05R$25.20
🇮🇳 India83.4₹416

When to Use

  • Maximum simplicity — No adjustments, just currency conversion
  • Consistent margins — You earn roughly the same in every market (in USD terms)
  • High-income focus — Works well when most users are in developed markets

Trade-offs

  • No affordability adjustment — A $4.99 app may be expensive in India but cheap in Switzerland
  • Potential volume loss — Developing markets may convert poorly due to high relative prices
  • Not revenue-optimized — Doesn't account for what users in each market are willing to pay

Data Source

Exchange rates are sourced from reliable, publicly available foreign-exchange rate providers. BasePrice uses multiple data sources with automatic fallback to ensure rates are always available.

Rates are refreshed regularly to ensure consistent and up-to-date pricing.
