Exchange Rate Strategy
The simplest pricing strategy — convert your base price using live exchange rates.
How It Works
The Exchange Rate strategy is a straightforward currency conversion. It converts your base price to each country's local currency using live exchange rates, with no purchasing power adjustment.
Example
With a base price of $4.99 USD:
| Country | Exchange Rate | Local Price |
|---|---|---|
| 🇬🇧 United Kingdom | 0.79 | £3.94 |
| 🇯🇵 Japan | 155.2 | ¥775 |
| 🇧🇷 Brazil | 5.05 | R$25.20 |
| 🇮🇳 India | 83.4 | ₹416 |
When to Use
- Maximum simplicity — No adjustments, just currency conversion
- Consistent margins — You earn roughly the same in every market (in USD terms)
- High-income focus — Works well when most users are in developed markets
Trade-offs
- No affordability adjustment — A $4.99 app may be expensive in India but cheap in Switzerland
- Potential volume loss — Developing markets may convert poorly due to high relative prices
- Not revenue-optimized — Doesn't account for what users in each market are willing to pay
Data Source
Exchange rates are sourced from reliable, publicly available foreign-exchange rate providers. BasePrice uses multiple data sources with automatic fallback to ensure rates are always available.
Rates are refreshed regularly to ensure consistent and up-to-date pricing.
